Setup, Compatibility & Care
Planting Time: Plant bare root trees between February-June and again in September-December. Ensure the roots are kept moist before planting.
Location: Choose a sunny position. These trees can be grown directly in the ground or, ideally for this collection, in large pots or containers.
Potting: If planting in pots, use a good quality potting compost and ensure the container has adequate drainage holes. The final pot size should be generous enough to accommodate the mature spread.
Watering: Water regularly, especially during dry periods and when the trees are establishing. Container-grown trees will require more frequent watering than those in the ground.
Feeding: Apply a balanced fertilizer in spring and again in mid-summer, following product instructions.
Pruning: Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and remove any dead or crossing branches. For fruiting trees, prune to encourage an open canopy.
Pollination: While generally self-fertile, gently brushing flowers with a soft paintbrush can enhance fruit production.
