FAQs

What is Bone China, and why is it special?

Bone China is a type of porcelain that includes bone ash in its composition. This makes it exceptionally strong, chip-resistant, lightweight, and gives it a characteristic translucency and smooth finish compared to standard porcelain.

Is this dinner set dishwasher safe?

While Bone China is durable, hand washing with mild soap is recommended to maintain the integrity of the finish and any delicate detailing. Dishwasher use may shorten its lifespan or affect its appearance over time.

Can I use this dinner set in the microwave?

It is generally not recommended to microwave Bone China, especially if there are any metallic accents or patterns. Doing so could cause damage or sparking.

How many people does this 53-piece set serve?

This 53-piece set is designed to serve 12 people, providing a full complement of dinner plates, bowls, and side plates for each person, plus serving pieces.

What are the dimensions of the dinner plates?

The dinner plates in this set measure 26 cm (approximately 10.2 inches) in diameter.

Can I buy individual pieces to replace a broken one?

While this guide focuses on the set, individual replacement pieces may be available from the manufacturer or select retailers. Contact Karaca customer service or check the product listing for availability.

Does the 'Autumn' design affect cleaning?

The Autumn design is integrated into the finish of the Bone China. The non-porous nature of the material means the design itself is resistant to staining, and cleaning follows the general care instructions for Bone China.

Troubleshooting

Dishwasher leaves a residue or dullness.

Bone China is best hand-washed. If using a dishwasher, ensure it is set to a gentle cycle and use a mild detergent. Avoid high heat drying.

Minor chips or cracks appear.

Handle pieces with care, especially when washing, drying, and storing. Bone China is more resistant than standard porcelain but can still chip if dropped or knocked forcefully.

Stains are difficult to remove.

The non-porous surface should resist staining. For stubborn marks, try a paste of baking soda and water, gently rubbing with a soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals.

Uneven stacking of plates.

Ensure pieces are completely dry before stacking. The square design may require careful alignment when stacking to ensure stability.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Comprehensive set for 12 people, reducing the need for separate purchases.
  • Premium Bone China offers a luxurious feel, durability, and resistance to temperature changes.
  • Modern square design with a classic white finish complements various decor styles.
  • Non-porous material ensures hygiene and easy cleaning.
  • Lightweight yet durable construction.
  • Versatile for everyday use and special occasions.

Cons

  • Hand wash recommended, which requires more effort than dishwasher-safe options.

  • Complete 53-piece set may be larger than needed for smaller households.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup: This dinnerware set requires no assembly. It is ready to use straight out of the box after a gentle wash.

Compatibility:

  • The set is designed for serving and eating food.
  • While Bone China is more resistant to temperature changes than standard porcelain, avoid extreme thermal shock (e.g., placing a very hot dish on a cold, wet surface).
  • Microwave use is not recommended due to the potential presence of metallic elements in decorative finishes, which could cause sparking. Always check specific product guidelines if unsure.

Care Instructions:

  • Hand Wash Recommended: To preserve the quality, finish, and delicate detailing of the Bone China, hand washing with mild detergent and a soft sponge is advised. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as they can scratch the surface.
  • Ensure pieces are completely dry before stacking to prevent moisture buildup.
  • Store pieces carefully to avoid chipping or cracking, especially the edges of the square plates.
