The MOT Type 1 Sub Base is designed for DIY enthusiasts and professional contractors requiring a reliable, load-bearing foundation for driveways, patios, and garden paths. Its primary benefit is the ability to compact into an exceptionally firm and stable surface, ensuring long-term structural integrity for paving and slabs. However, users should be aware that because it is a natural product, variations in color and aggregate grading can occur between batches.

For driveways, a minimum of 100mm-150mm is recommended after compaction. For paths and patios, 75mm-100mm is generally sufficient.
No, MOT Type 1 is a foundation material. It will not provide a smooth or clean surface for walking and should be covered with paving, slabs, or gravel.
Yes, for driveways and load-bearing areas, using a mechanical plate compactor is essential to ensure the base is stable.
Because it is a natural product, color variation is normal and does not affect the structural performance of the sub-base.
You should calculate the volume of your area (length x width x depth) and account for a slight increase in volume as the material compacts.
The layer is likely too thick to compact properly. Remove, lay thinner layers, and use a mechanical plate compactor.
Use wooden battens and a spirit level to screed the MOT Type 1 before final compaction.
Before starting, ensure the ground has been excavated to the required depth based on your specific project needs. MOT Type 1 is highly compatible with most paving types, including concrete blocks, natural stone, and resin-bound surfaces. To maintain the integrity of your installation, ensure the sub-base is not contaminated with topsoil or debris during construction. While the material is low-maintenance, keeping the area free from large roots and ensuring adequate drainage around the perimeter will protect the longevity of your finished paving.
