Setup, Compatibility & Care
Sowing Seeds: Coleus seeds require warmth and light to germinate. Sow seeds on the surface of a moist, well-drained seed compost in pots or trays. Cover lightly with compost or vermiculite. Maintain a consistent temperature of 18-24°C (65-75°F). Germination typically takes 7-14 days.
Transplanting: Once seedlings are large enough to handle, prick them out into individual small pots. Grow on in good light, but avoid direct sunlight initially. Gradually acclimatize plants to outdoor conditions once all risk of frost has passed, if planting outside.
Soil & Location: Coleus prefers well-drained soil or compost. For optimal color and growth, they need good light. Outdoors, choose a warm, sheltered spot. Indoors, they can be placed in bright, indirect light.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water regularly during the growing season.
Feeding: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-4 weeks during the growing season.
Pinching: Regularly pinch out the flower shoots as they appear. This encourages the plant to become bushier and promotes more vibrant foliage growth.
