Product Information

Full details

The Metz Connect KMA-E08 is an analog encoder designed for precise manual control of variables such as mixing valves, temperature values, and valve positions. It offers two operational modes, Manual and Auto, switchable via an integrated two-level switch, providing flexibility for various applications. A key benefit is its ability to provide a clear 0-10V output signal and signal switch positions externally, although users should note that the 'Auto' mode loops through the control variable without modification from the YR terminal.

Extended Product Information

FAQs

What power supply does the KMA-E08 require?

The Metz Connect KMA-E08 requires a 24V AC/DC power supply.

How do I switch between Manual and Auto modes?

You can switch between modes using the integrated two-level switch on the module.

What is the output signal range?

The module provides an output signal ranging from 0 to 10 V.

Can the switch position be monitored?

Yes, the switch position (Manual/Auto) is signaled via external control contact terminals S1 and S2.

What does the LED indicator signify?

The LED brightness is proportional to the control variable, providing a visual indication of the output level.

What are the dimensions of the module?

The dimensions are 22.5 mm (width) x 60 mm (depth) x 61.3 mm (height).

What is the operating temperature range?

The device operates within a temperature range of -10 to 50 °C.

Troubleshooting

No output signal on Y terminal

Verify the 24V AC/DC power supply is correctly connected and providing voltage. Ensure the switch is in the desired mode (Manual or Auto) and the potentiometer is set appropriately or YR is receiving a signal.

LED indicator not working

Check the power supply. Ensure the LED is not obstructed and the control variable is within a range that causes the LED to illuminate.

Switch position not signaled externally

Confirm that terminals S1 and S2 are correctly wired to the external control system. Check for any breaks in the wiring to these terminals.

Incorrect output in AUTO mode

In AUTO mode, the output at Y mirrors the input at YR directly. Ensure the signal being fed into YR is correct. The KMA-E08 does not modify the signal in this mode.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Offers both manual adjustment and automatic pass-through control.
  • Provides clear external signaling for switch status.
  • Standard 0-10V output is compatible with many systems.
  • Compact size saves space in control cabinets.
  • Visual feedback via LED brightness adds operational insight.

Cons

  • Requires a 24V AC/DC power supply.
  • IP40/IP20 rating suggests limited protection against dust and water ingress.
  • In 'Auto' mode, the input is passed through directly, offering less direct control.
  • Operating temperature range is limited to -10 to 50 °C.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup: Connect the device to a 24V AC/DC power supply. Wire the control variable input to the YR terminal (for Auto mode) or use the front potentiometer (for Manual mode). The output signal is available on the Y terminal. External control terminals S1 and S2 can be wired to signal the switch position. Ensure the switch is set to the desired mode (MANUAL or AUTO) before operation.

Compatibility: The KMA-E08 is compatible with control systems that accept a 0-10V analog signal. It requires a 24V AC/DC power source. Ensure the surrounding environment is within the operating temperature range of -10 to 50 °C and offers adequate protection against dust and moisture given its IP rating.

Care: Keep the device clean and free from dust. Avoid exposing it to moisture or extreme temperatures outside its specified operating range. Disconnect power before performing any cleaning or maintenance. Cleaning can be done with a dry or slightly damp cloth.
