Setup, Compatibility & Care
Compatibility:
This dye is specifically formulated for synthetic fabrics such as 100% polyester, acrylic, nylon, acetate, and blends containing these fibers (e.g., poly-cotton). It is *not* suitable for 100% natural fibers like cotton, linen, rayon, or silk.
Setup & Dyeing Process (Cooker Top Method):
- Preparation: Wear rubber gloves. Ensure you are using a dye pot dedicated solely for dyeing, not for food preparation. Clean the fabric thoroughly to remove any finishes or stains.
- Heat Water: Fill a large pot with enough water for the fabric to move freely. Heat water on the stovetop to between 140°F and 160°F (60°C - 71°C). Do not boil.
- Add Dye: Shake the dye bottle well. Pour the liquid dye directly into the hot water and stir thoroughly.
- Add Fabric: Submerge the damp fabric into the dye bath. Stir continuously for at least 30 minutes, ensuring even coverage and maintaining the temperature.
- Rinse: Once the desired color is achieved, carefully remove the fabric. Rinse in cold water until the water runs clear.
- Wash: Wash the dyed item in hot water with a mild detergent. Rinse again and dry as usual.
Care for Dyed Items:
- Wash dyed items separately in cold water for the first few washes to prevent color bleeding.
- Use mild detergents and avoid bleach.
- For best results, continue to wash synthetic items dyed with Rit DyeMore in warm water and dry on a low heat setting.
