Setup, Compatibility & Care
Sowing the seeds should be conducted between February and June to ensure the plants have enough time to establish before the peak summer season. Sow the seeds in a high-quality, moist seed-starting compost. Keep the soil consistently damp but not waterlogged during the germination process. Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into their final garden position. Ensure the soil is well-draining. While these plants are hardy, applying a general-purpose fertilizer at the start of the season can support the large volume of blooms produced between July and October. Remove dead or faded flowers (deadheading) to encourage the plant to continue producing new buds throughout the season.
