Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup and Preparation
- Unpack and Acclimatize: Upon arrival, unwrap the timber and lay it flat in the environment where it will be used. Allow 24-48 hours for the timber to stabilize to the ambient temperature and humidity. This critical step minimizes future movement like warping or bowing.
- Inspect: Before cutting, inspect each piece for any minor imperfections. While consistently smooth, natural variations can occur.
Compatibility
This timber is compatible with a wide range of standard woodworking tools and materials:
- Cutting Tools: Hand saws, circular saws, miter saws, jigsaw, and coping saws.
- Fasteners: Wood screws, nails, and staples. Always choose appropriate lengths to prevent penetration through the other side.
- Adhesives: Standard PVA wood glues, polyurethane glues, and construction adhesives.
- Finishes: Compatible with most wood paints, stains, varnishes, oils, and lacquers.
Care and Maintenance
- Storage: Always store unused timber flat on a level, dry surface. Avoid storing it directly on concrete floors or in areas with high humidity, extreme temperatures, or direct sunlight. Proper stacking, with stickers (small pieces of wood) between layers, can ensure air circulation and prevent warping over longer periods.
- Cleaning: For finished timber, wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap if necessary, then dry immediately. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
- Protection: For enhanced longevity and aesthetics, applying a suitable wood finish (paint, stain, varnish) is highly recommended, even for internal use, as it protects against minor scuffs and environmental factors.
