Setup, Compatibility & Care
Proper installation is vital for the longevity of your paving. We recommend a full-mortar bed on a well-compacted sub-base to prevent future movement or cracking. Because slate is a natural stone, ensure the underside of each slab is primed with a stone primer to guarantee a strong bond with the bedding mortar.
Maintenance Tips:
- Cleaning: Sweep regularly with a stiff-bristle broom to remove loose debris.
- Washing: Use warm water and a mild, PH-neutral stone cleaner. Avoid high-pressure washers, which can damage the natural surface.
- Sealing: While not strictly mandatory, applying a high-quality natural stone sealer can help protect the slate from oil stains and organic staining, especially in high-traffic BBQ areas.
