FAQs

Are these bars suitable for hitting with a sledgehammer?

The bars feature a strike head designed for tapping with a standard hammer to seat the tool, but they are not intended for use as a chisel with high-impact sledgehammers.

What is EN9 steel?

EN9 is a high-carbon steel known for its excellent strength and wear resistance, making it ideal for tools that undergo high-stress conditions.

Can I use these for prying open wooden crates?

Yes, they are versatile enough for general construction use, though they are optimized for heavy automotive and mechanical applications.

How long are the bars in this set?

The set includes two 24-inch (600mm) bars and two 36-inch (900mm) bars.

Can the tips be sharpened?

Yes, if the tips become dull or burred over time, they can be carefully reshaped using a metal file or bench grinder, taking care not to overheat the steel.

Troubleshooting

The tip is slipping off the object.

Ensure the bar is fully seated. If the surface is oily, wipe both the bar tip and the contact point to improve friction.

The handle feels slippery.

Clean the handle with an industrial degreaser and ensure your hands are free of excess oil before use.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Durable EN9 steel construction
  • Excellent leverage from 3-foot lengths
  • Multiple head angles for hard-to-reach areas
  • Includes a convenient storage pouch
  • Strike heads allow for precise placement

Cons

  • Heavy weight may cause fatigue during prolonged use
  • Not suitable for small or delicate precision tasks
  • Requires significant storage space due to size

Setup, Compatibility & Care

There is no complex setup required for these tools. To maintain the longevity of your US PRO Tools pry bars:

  1. Cleaning: Wipe the bars down with a clean cloth after each use to remove grease and chemical residue.
  2. Corrosion Prevention: While the black finish is durable, applying a light coat of machine oil can prevent oxidation, especially if stored in a humid environment.
  3. Inspection: Periodically check the edges of the tips for burrs. If a burr develops, use a metal file to smooth it down to ensure proper contact.
  4. Storage: Always return the bars to the provided nylon pouch to keep them away from other tools that might scratch or damage the precision-ground tips.
