FAQs

Can I use this for carp fishing?

While it can accommodate large carp, its size is specifically optimized for large catfish and may be cumbersome for standard carp fishing.

Is the material fish-safe?

Yes, the material is specifically designed to be smooth and soft to prevent damage to the protective slime layer of the fish.

How do I weigh the fish accurately using this sling?

Zero your scales with the wet, drained sling attached first, then place the fish inside to get a precise weight of the specimen.

Can this sling be used for long-term retention?

This is primarily a handling and weighing sling; long-term retention should only be performed in accordance with fishery-specific rules and proper animal welfare guidelines.

What is the weight capacity of the sling?

The sling is constructed for heavy-duty use capable of handling the largest catfish likely to be encountered in European waters.

Troubleshooting

Sling feels heavy during weighing

Ensure the fish is positioned correctly and allow a few seconds for the mesh drainage sections to fully evacuate excess water.

Difficulty cleaning off fish slime

Use a mild, non-toxic, aquatic-safe detergent and a soft brush to gently scrub the mesh panels; rinse thoroughly afterwards.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Specifically sized for large specimen catfish
Reinforced construction for maximum durability
Mesh panels allow for instant water evacuation
Ergonomic handles for safe and stable lifting
Protective material minimizes physical stress on fish

Cons

Large footprint requires significant space in gear bags
Not intended for smaller coarse fish species
Material takes longer to dry completely than standard slings

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure the longevity of your NGT Cat Fish Sling, proper care is essential after every session.

Rinse: Always thoroughly rinse the sling with fresh water to remove any lake silt, slime, or debris that could harbor bacteria.
Dry: Allow the sling to air dry completely in a shaded area away from direct sunlight, as UV rays can degrade synthetic fibers over time.
Storage: Fold neatly once fully dry and store in a dedicated waterproof sleeve to prevent moisture transfer to other gear.

This sling is compatible with most standard heavy-duty tripod weighing scales. Ensure that your tripod is rated for the potential weight of the catfish being targeted.
