Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
- Install Hard Drives: Insert compatible 2.5" or 3.5" hard drives into the drive bays. Consult the Synology website for a compatibility list.
- Connect to Network: Connect the DS223j to your router using an Ethernet cable.
- Power On: Plug in the power adapter and turn on the NAS.
- Install DSM: Use a web browser to find the NAS on your network (e.g., find.synology.com) and follow the on-screen instructions to install the DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system.
- Configure: Configure storage pools, users, and shared folders via the DSM interface.
Compatibility
The DS223j is compatible with:
- Operating Systems: Windows, macOS, Linux.
- Network Protocols: SMB, AFP, NFS, FTP, WebDAV, CalDAV, iSCSI, Telnet, SSH, SNMP, and VPN (PPTP, OpenVPN).
- File Systems: Btrfs, FAT32, HFS+, NTFS, exFAT, ext3, ext4.
Care
- Keep the DS223j in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Clean the NAS regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
- Ensure adequate ventilation to prevent overheating.
- Use a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) to protect against power outages.
- Regularly update the DSM and installed packages to ensure security and stability.
