Troubleshooting
Seeds failing to germinate

Stunted growth

Pros and Cons
Pros
- Thrives in damp soil conditions
- Excellent for pollinators
- Hardy and well-suited for UK gardens
- Aromatic foliage adds sensory appeal
Cons
- Germination requires precise temperature control
- Requires specific soil moisture management
- Needs to be cut back annually in autumn
Setup, Compatibility & Care
- Sowing: Sow seeds on the surface of good, free-draining compost from late winter through spring.
- Germination: Keep compost moist but not waterlogged. Seal in a polythene bag at 20-25C (70-75F). Reducing night-time temperatures can help improve germination rates, which usually take 10-30 days.
- Transplanting: Move seedlings to 7.5cm (3in) pots once they are large enough to handle.
- Planting Out: Space plants 30cm (12in) apart in rich, moist, well-drained soil once the risk of frost has passed.
- Maintenance: Ensure regular watering during the first growing season. In autumn, cut the plants back hard to encourage healthy growth the following year.
