FAQs
What is Corten steel and why is it used?
Corten steel, also known as weathering steel, naturally develops a stable, rust-like protective layer when exposed to the elements. This layer prevents further corrosion, making the material highly durable and eliminating the need for painting or sealing, thus reducing maintenance costs.
Will the Corten steel rust away completely?
No, the rust layer that forms on Corten steel is a protective patina. It adheres to the base metal and prevents deeper corrosion, ensuring the structural integrity and longevity of the raised bed.
How long does it take for the Corten steel to develop its rust colour?
The time it takes for the full rust patina to develop can vary depending on environmental conditions, but it typically occurs over several months to a couple of years. The initial rusting may be noticeable within weeks.
Can I paint the raised bed if I don't like the rusty look?
While Corten steel is designed to be left untreated, it is possible to paint it. However, painting may require specific preparation and may not adhere as well to the naturally oxidizing surface over the long term. The intended aesthetic is the natural rust finish.
What are the exact dimensions of the raised bed?
The dimensions of the VidaXL Garden Raised Bed are 400 cm in length, 80 cm in width, and 45 cm in height (L x W x H).
Is the product delivered assembled?
No, this product requires assembly. A manual is included to assist with the setup process.
What is the warranty period for this product?
The VidaXL Garden Raised Bed comes with a 2-year guarantee.
Troubleshooting
Product arrives with a plain metallic color, not rusty.
This is normal. The characteristic rust layer develops over time when exposed to atmospheric conditions. You can accelerate this process by spraying with a mixture of salt and soap water.
Rust runoff staining nearby surfaces.
During the initial weathering phase, rust can run off. To prevent staining, place a temporary barrier around the base of the raised bed or choose a location where staining is not a concern.
Assembly appears difficult.
Refer to the included assembly manual. Ensure all parts are present before starting. If issues persist, consider seeking assistance due to the size of the unit.

Setup, Compatibility & Care Instructions
Setup: Assembly is required for this garden raised bed. Each product includes a manual to guide you through the process. Ensure you have adequate space and assistance for assembly due to the size and weight of the components.
Compatibility: This raised bed is designed for outdoor use and is compatible with various soil types. It can be placed directly on level ground, patios, or decks. Ensure the surface is stable and can support the weight of the filled bed.
Care: Corten steel is known for its low maintenance. No painting or sealing is required. To maintain its appearance and prevent rust runoff from staining surrounding areas during the initial weathering period, you can place a barrier or avoid direct contact with surfaces prone to staining. Clean any accumulated debris with water and a soft brush as needed.
