Product Information

Full details

This 2mm rubber underlay is designed for homeowners and contractors looking to enhance the longevity and comfort of laminate, engineered wood, or vinyl floors. By providing a combination of effective moisture protection, thermal insulation, and significant impact noise reduction, it serves as a critical foundation for high-traffic areas; however, users should ensure their subfloor is level before installation, as this thin underlay is primarily focused on resilience rather than heavy-duty leveling.

FAQs

Can I use this underlay with underfloor heating?

While rubber is a good thermal insulator, verify the tog rating of your flooring to ensure heat transfer is sufficient; always consult your flooring manufacturer's specifications.

Does the silver foil side face up or down?

The silver foil side should face upwards, acting as the vapour barrier directly beneath your laminate or wood flooring.

Is this underlay suitable for carpet?

No, this is specifically designed for hard flooring surfaces like laminate, vinyl, and engineered wood.

How many square meters does one roll cover?

This specific variant covers 10 square meters.

Can this be used in bathrooms?

The silver foil provides a vapour barrier, but ensure all perimeter edges are correctly sealed to prevent water ingress into the subfloor.

Troubleshooting

Underlay feels uneven after installation

The underlay may be catching on subfloor debris. Lift the section, clear the subfloor of grit or bumps, and re-lay.

Moisture accumulation detected at seams

Ensure that the silver foil seams are properly overlapped or butt-jointed and thoroughly sealed with specialized moisture-proof adhesive tape.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Excellent damp-proofing capabilities via silver foil
High noise reduction rating of 23dB
Provides essential thermal insulation
Suitable for both residential and commercial use
Sturdy and flexible construction

Cons

Thickness is limited to 2mm, which may not correct deep subfloor dips
Requires careful alignment of seams to maintain vapour barrier integrity
Weight of rubber material is heavier than standard foam alternatives

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Installation is straightforward. Begin by ensuring the subfloor is clean, dry, and free of debris. Unroll the underlay with the silver foil side facing upward to ensure the moisture barrier is between the subfloor and your new flooring. Use high-quality moisture-resistant tape to secure all butt joints, ensuring there are no gaps that would allow moisture to rise.

This underlay is compatible with standard click-lock laminate, engineered hardwood, and luxury vinyl planks. It does not require special maintenance, though you should avoid puncturing the foil layer during installation to ensure the DPM remains intact. If storing unused rolls, keep them in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight.
