Do I need to add extra fertilizer?

No, the mix already contains granular compost to provide the necessary nutrients for initial growth.

Will this attract birds?

Yes, the mix is specifically designed to attract birds and beneficial insects like bees and butterflies to your garden.

Troubleshooting

Seeds failing to germinate

Ensure soil is kept consistently moist during the germination period and check that seeds were not buried too deeply during the raking process.

Weeds growing faster than wildflowers

Thoroughly clear the site of perennial weeds before sowing and hand-weed any fast-growing intruders during the first few weeks of seedling growth.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Simplified planting process with integrated compost
  • Encourages local biodiversity and pollinator populations
  • Provides long-lasting seasonal color
  • Suitable for various garden settings including borders and open spaces

Cons

  • Requires proper soil preparation to avoid weeds
  • 1.2kg pack size may be insufficient for large-scale meadow creation
  • Requires regular watering until seedlings are established

Setup, Compatibility & Care

For optimal results, sow the seeds during the spring or autumn when soil temperatures are conducive to growth.

  1. Preparation: Clear the soil of weeds, stones, and debris. Rake the surface to create a loose, fine texture.
  2. Sowing: Scatter the mix evenly across the prepared area.
  3. Firming: Lightly rake or roll the seeds into the soil to ensure good seed-to-soil contact.
  4. Watering: Keep the area moist during the first few weeks, especially during dry spells, to support germination.
  5. Maintenance: Avoid using chemical fertilizers or herbicides in the wildflower patch, as these can inhibit the natural growth cycle of the flowers.
