This Connect Braided Fabric Heat Shrink Sleeving Master Kit is designed for professionals and DIY enthusiasts needing robust cable and pipe protection. Its primary benefit is offering a versatile solution for organizing, securing, and shielding wiring looms, coolant pipes, and fuel lines from environmental and mechanical damage. A key caveat is the requirement of a specific heat source for activation, making it unsuitable for applications where heat is a concern or unavailable. The kit includes five sizes of heat shrink sleeves and a butane-powered hot air gun, all housed in a durable storage case.

FAQs
What is the main purpose of this heat shrink sleeving?
The primary purpose is to protect wiring, pipes, and cables from environmental factors like fluids, abrasion, heat, and EMI, while also providing a neat and organized appearance.
What materials can this sleeving be used on?
It is suitable for use on wiring looms, coolant pipes, fuel lines, battery cabling, and other similar conduits.
How do I apply the heat shrink sleeve?
Slide the sleeve over the component, then use the provided butane-powered hot air gun to apply heat evenly until the sleeve shrinks to a snug fit.
What sizes are included in the master kit?
The kit includes five sizes: 12mm x 2m, 20mm x 2m, 40mm x 2m, 60mm x 2m, and 80mm x 2m.
Can I use a different heat source instead of the butane gun?
While a heat source is required, using a different source may not provide the optimal and consistent heat needed for proper shrinking. The butane gun is designed for this application. Prolonged exposure to direct flame from a lighter could damage the material.
What is the operating temperature range?
The sleeving can operate reliably in temperatures ranging from -40°C to +125°C.
Are additional sizes available if I run out?
Yes, top-up kits for individual sizes are available separately from Connect (Part Nos. 34322, 34323, 34324, 34325, and 34326).
Troubleshooting
Sleeve not shrinking evenly
Ensure consistent heat application by moving the hot air gun continuously and evenly across the entire surface of the sleeve. Check that the butane fuel level in the gun is adequate.
Sleeve appears to be melting or scorching
Reduce the heat intensity or increase the distance between the hot air gun and the sleeve. Move the heat source more rapidly.
Difficulty sliding sleeve onto cable
Confirm that the selected sleeve size is correct for the cable diameter. For very tight fits, consider using a slightly larger sleeve size or a specialized insertion tool if available.
Hot air gun not igniting or maintaining flame
Check the butane fuel level and ensure the gas flow is properly adjusted. Refer to the hot air gun's specific manual for troubleshooting ignition issues.
Pros and Cons
Pros
Provides excellent protection against abrasion, fluids, and EMI.
The master kit offers a wide range of sizes suitable for various applications.
Includes a dedicated hot air gun for immediate use.
Durable construction ensures long-lasting protection.
Organized storage case keeps all components secure and accessible.
Cons
Requires a heat source (butane gun included) for activation, limiting use in certain environments.
May be overkill for simple, low-stress applications.
Top-up kits are required for specific sizes after initial use.
The butane hot air gun requires fuel refills.
Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
Select the appropriate sleeve size for the cable or pipe to be protected. Ensure the sleeve is large enough to slide over the component before shrinking.
Slide the selected sleeve onto the cable or pipe, positioning it where protection is needed.
Use the included butane-powered hot air gun (Laser Part No. 8815) to apply heat evenly around the sleeve. Move the gun continuously to avoid scorching.
The sleeve will shrink to approximately half its original diameter, forming a tight bond. Allow it to cool completely.
Compatibility:
Suitable for use on wiring looms, coolant pipes, fuel lines, battery cabling, and other flexible or rigid conduits.
Compatible with most common vehicle and industrial fluid types.
Operating temperature range: -40°C to +125°C.
Care:
The heat shrink sleeves themselves require no maintenance once applied.
Keep the sleeves clean from excessive dirt or grime to maintain their protective properties.
Store the hot air gun and sleeves in the provided plastic case when not in use to protect them from damage and environmental exposure.
Ensure the hot air gun is refueled and maintained according to its specific instructions.
