Because it is a murder mystery, once you know the identity of the culprit and the solution to the case, the game loses its surprise factor and is generally not designed for repeat play.
The game is designed for individuals, couples, or small groups. While any number can participate, 2-4 players is often considered the optimal size for active discussion.
No. You only need a web browser on a computer, tablet, or smartphone to access the online police database.
Due to the mature themes of a murder investigation, it is recommended for players aged 14 and up.
Yes. As long as you do not write on the evidence cards, you can return everything to the folder and pass it on to a friend to play.
Ensure your internet connection is active and verify you are entering the specific URL provided in your physical case file.
Visit the official Cryptic Killers website to access the hint system, which offers tiered clues to help you get back on track without spoiling the final answer.
Setup is straightforward: ensure you have a stable internet connection for the online database portion of the case file. While the game can be played solo, it is best experienced with at least one other person to allow for brainstorming and cross-referencing evidence. Because the game relies on paper documents, keep beverages away from the play area to prevent water damage to the files. To preserve the mystery for others, be careful not to fold or tear the evidence documents during your investigation, as they can be repacked into the folder for friends to play once you have successfully solved the case.
