FAQs

How long should I let Micro Sol and Micro Set dry?

Allow several hours or overnight for the solutions to dry completely. The exact time may vary depending on humidity and temperature.

Can I use Micro Sol and Micro Set on any type of decal?

These solutions work with most modern plastic model kit decals. Test on an inconspicuous area, especially with older decals.

What if I get Micro Sol or Micro Set on my skin?

Rinse the affected area thoroughly with water. If irritation persists, seek medical attention.

How do I remove a decal that has been applied with Micro Sol and Micro Set?

Carefully lift the edges of the decal using a hobby knife. You can then gently reapply Micro Sol to soften the remaining adhesive residue, and remove with a cotton swab. Be careful not to damage the model.

Do I need to apply a gloss coat before using Micro Sol and Micro Set?

Applying a gloss coat before decals can help them adhere better and reduce the chance of silvering. This is not strictly necessary but can improve results.

What if I have trouble conforming a decal to a curved surface?

Apply Micro Sol liberally, and use a cotton swab to gently press the decal into the curves. Multiple applications may be needed. Consider using a heat gun (on low setting) cautiously, but be careful not to overheat the decal.

Can I use Micro Sol and Micro Set on water slide decals for other purposes?

Yes, these solutions can be used on water slide decals for various hobby projects, not just model kits.

Troubleshooting

Decals are not adhering properly, or are lifting from the surface.

Ensure that the model surface is clean. Reapply Micro Set to the area. Use a cotton swab to gently press the decal, and use Micro Sol over the area. Allow adequate drying time.

Decals are silvering (air bubbles trapped beneath the decal).

Ensure that Micro Sol has softened the decal adequately so it can settle onto the model. Use a cotton swab to gently press the decal to remove the air bubbles. Multiple applications may be required. Consider a gloss coat before decal application.

Decals are damaged or wrinkled during application.

Apply Micro Sol sparingly to prevent over-softening. Handle decals carefully with tweezers. If the decal is badly damaged, remove it and apply a new one.

  • Suitable for use with a wide range of decal types and model scales.

Cons

  • Results may vary depending on the type and age of the decal.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

  1. Preparation: Ensure the model surface is clean and free of dust or debris. If the model has a glossy surface, this will improve decal adhesion.
  2. Application: Apply Micro Set to the model surface. Carefully position the decal, then apply Micro Sol over the decal.
  3. Drying: Allow the solutions to dry completely, typically several hours or overnight. Avoid handling the model during this time.
  4. Compatibility: Micro Sol and Micro Set are compatible with most types of plastic model kits and decals. Always test on a small, inconspicuous area first, especially with older decals.
  5. Storage: Store the bottles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Keep the caps tightly sealed when not in use.
  6. Care: Handle the solutions with care. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. In case of contact, rinse thoroughly with water. Dispose of the solutions properly according to local regulations.
