The Knipex 165mm Cable Shears are essential precision hand tools designed for professional electricians and tradespeople who require clean, effortless cutting of copper and aluminum cables. These shears excel in providing precise dismantling and stripping performance while ensuring user safety through ergonomic design, though they are specifically intended for soft cables and should not be used on hard-drawn copper conductors or steel wire.

No. These shears are designed for soft copper and aluminum cables only. Using them on steel will permanently damage the cutting edges.
The standard 165mm model features heavy-duty molded handles for comfort and slip protection, but they are not rated as VDE insulated tools for high-voltage work.
Knipex tools are precision-hardened. It is not recommended to sharpen them yourself, as this can compromise the hardness of the steel.
While capacity depends on the cable type, they are best suited for flexible copper and aluminum cables up to 16mm² diameter.
The heavy-duty handles are resistant to most common shop chemicals and oils found in professional environments.
Ensure the cable is placed as close to the hinge as possible to maximize mechanical advantage.
Clean the cutting edges with a solvent to remove debris or wire residue. If edges are damaged, do not attempt to grind them manually as this may ruin the tempered steel.
Apply a drop of high-quality machine oil to the hinge joint and open and close the shears repeatedly to work the lubricant in.
No complex setup is required; the shears arrive ready for immediate use. To ensure the longevity of the tool, wipe the blades with a light machine oil after exposure to moisture to prevent oxidation. While the blades are hardened, they remain precision instruments; avoid using the tool for prying or as a hammer, as this can misalign the cutting edges. Inspect the handles periodically to ensure the molded grip remains firmly attached to the steel tang for continued safety. Store in a dry environment to maintain the temper of the steel.
