FAQs

What makes the Dual Core Construction™ unique?

The Dual Core Construction™ combines two distinct bands of webbing with a supportive insert in the center of the waistbelt. This design enhances breathability and comfort, particularly during extended hanging periods, while maintaining structural integrity.

How do I properly adjust the TrakFIT leg loops?

Release the slider on the TrakFIT leg loop by pulling it away from the buckle. Adjust the loop to your desired circumference, then re-engage the slider to secure the position. Ensure a snug but comfortable fit.

Is this harness suitable for multi-pitch climbing?

Yes, the Black Diamond Momentum Harness is well-suited for multi-pitch climbing due to its comfort during belays, adjustable leg loops for varying conditions, and sufficient gear loops for essential equipment.

How often should I inspect my harness?

It is recommended to inspect your harness thoroughly before each use. A more detailed inspection of webbing, stitching, and hardware should be performed periodically, especially after significant use or exposure to harsh conditions.

Can I use this harness for ice climbing?

While the Momentum is an all-around harness, for dedicated ice climbing, a harness with more robust features, such as larger gear loops and easier adjustment with gloves on, might be preferred. However, it can be used for moderate ice climbing scenarios.

What is the weight of the harness?

The Black Diamond Momentum Harness weighs approximately 302 grams.

How does the women's specific fit differ?

The women's version features a bullhorn-shaped waistbelt adapted to female morphology and adjusted spacing of the leg loops to enhance comfort and fit for female climbers.

Troubleshooting

Waistbelt buckle feels stiff or difficult to adjust

Ensure there is no dirt or debris inside the buckle mechanism. Gently flex the webbing around the buckle. If the issue persists, contact customer support.

Leg loops feel uncomfortable or too tight/loose

Re-adjust the TrakFIT leg loops. Ensure they are properly tensioned for your comfort and security, especially when wearing different layers.

Gear loops seem to sag or not hold gear securely

Verify that the gear loops are not overloaded. The pressure-moulded design provides structure, but excessive weight can cause them to deform over time. Distribute gear weight evenly.

Harness feels less supportive than expected

Ensure the waistbelt and leg loops are tightened correctly according to the fit guide. Check that the Dual Core Construction is properly seated and providing support.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Streamlined design for efficient climbing.
Quick and easy adjustments with the Speed Adjust buckle.
Comfortable for extended periods of hanging due to Dual Core Construction.
Adjustable leg loops for a personalized fit.
Sufficient gear storage for most climbing scenarios.

Cons

May not have as much padding as more specialized, heavy-duty harnesses.
The streamlined nature might be less ideal for extreme multi-day expeditions requiring extensive gear.
The haul loop is functional but basic.
Women's specific fit might not suit all body types.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup: The Speed Adjust waistbelt buckle is pre-threaded and requires no initial setup beyond ensuring it's correctly routed through the buckle mechanism. Simply slide it to tighten and release to loosen. The TrakFIT leg loops are adjusted by pulling a slider away from the buckle and then sliding the loop to the desired size before re-engaging the buckle.

Compatibility: This harness is designed for all standard climbing applications. Ensure your carabiners and belay devices are compatible with the harness's tie-in points and gear loops. It is suitable for use with traditional climbing, sport climbing, trad climbing, and gym climbing.

Care: To maintain the harness's integrity and lifespan:

Clean with a damp cloth and mild soap if necessary. Avoid harsh detergents.
Allow the harness to air dry completely away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
Inspect webbing, stitching, buckles, and gear loops regularly for any signs of wear, fraying, or damage. Replace the harness if significant damage is found.
Store in a cool, dry place when not in use.
