The Makita DHR242Z is an 18V LXT Li-Ion 3-mode SDS rotary hammer drill designed for professional tradespeople requiring powerful and versatile drilling capabilities. Its key benefit is the efficient brushless motor for extended run time and power. A primary consideration is that batteries and charger are sold separately. This tool excels in concrete drilling and light demolition tasks, offering three modes: hammering with rotation, rotation-only, and hammering-only.

The Makita DHR242Z is compatible with all Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion batteries. Please note that batteries are sold separately.
No, batteries and a charger are not included with the Makita DHR242Z. These must be purchased separately.
The three modes are: Hammering with Rotation (for drilling into concrete/masonry), Rotation-Only (for drilling into wood/metal), and Hammer-Only (for chiseling/demolition).
The DHR242Z features an SDS Plus chuck, allowing for quick, tool-less bit changes. Insert the bit, push it forward, and twist slightly until it locks. To remove, pull back the chuck collar and pull out the bit.
Please refer to Makita's official warranty documentation for the specific warranty period applicable to this model in your region. Typically, professional tools come with a limited warranty.
The tool itself weighs approximately 7.28 pounds.
No, you must use SDS Plus shank bits designed for rotary hammer drills. Regular cylindrical shank bits will not fit or function correctly.
Ensure a fully charged Makita 18V LXT battery is properly inserted. Check battery contacts for dirt and clean if necessary. Try a different charged battery.
Verify the tool is set to hammering mode (either hammering with rotation or hammer-only). Ensure the bit is correctly seated in the SDS chuck and not damaged.
Check if the battery is low and needs recharging. Clean air vents for proper motor cooling. Ensure the bit is sharp and not dull, and that there are no obstructions in the material being drilled.
Ensure the correct SDS Plus bit is being used. Clean the bit shank and the inside of the chuck. Lightly lubricate the bit shank if recommended for the specific bit type.
