Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup: For bareroot plants, soak the roots in water for a few hours before planting. Pot-grown plants can be planted directly. Ensure the planting location is moist to wet, such as the margins of a pond, stream bank, or a consistently damp border. Plant with the crown just at or slightly above the soil line.
Compatibility: This plant is best suited for large, damp areas and is incompatible with dry or small garden spaces. It can outcompete many smaller or less vigorous plants, so companion planting should be strategic.
Care: Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods. In spring, remove any dead foliage from the previous year. Due to its vigorous growth, consider annual division or containment measures if space becomes an issue. Mulching around the base can help retain moisture.
