Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
The Garden Gear Wooden Cold Frame requires assembly. All necessary components and instructions are provided. We recommend setting aside adequate time and space for assembly, and having basic hand tools (like a screwdriver) ready. Ensure all connections are secure to maintain structural integrity and minimize heat loss.
Compatibility
This cold frame is designed for outdoor garden use. Its dimensions (L90 x W51 x H104cm) make it suitable for various garden sizes, from small urban plots to larger rural landscapes. It is compatible with a wide range of potted plants, seed trays, or direct planting into the soil beneath, provided the soil level allows the lid to close properly.
Care & Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and effectiveness of your cold frame, follow these care tips:
- Cleaning: Regularly wipe down the polycarbonate panels with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt, dust, and algae, which can reduce light transmission. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
- Wood Maintenance: The fir wood frame should be inspected periodically for any signs of wear, splintering, or insect damage. To further extend the lifespan and protect the wood from weathering, consider applying a wood sealant or protective stain annually, especially if exposed to continuous moisture.
- Hinge Inspection: Check the hinges on the lid occasionally to ensure they are functioning smoothly and are free from rust or damage. Lubricate if necessary.
- Placement: Position your cold frame in a location that receives ample sunlight, ideally south-facing, for maximum warming effect. Ensure it's on a relatively level surface for stability and proper lid closure.
