FAQs

What size is the stencil?

The Tim Holtz Layering Stencil - Numeric measures approximately 4 1/8 inches by 8 1/2 inches.

Can I use this with texture paste?

Yes, this stencil is excellent for use with texture paste to add dimension and raised effects to your projects.

How do I keep my stencils organized?

The stencil features a hole at the top, allowing you to thread a Cable Binder Ring (sold separately) through it, along with other stencils, for easy storage and access.

Is this stencil suitable for beginners?

Yes, the design is straightforward to use, making it suitable for crafters of all skill levels. Experimenting with different application techniques will yield varied results.

What is the main benefit of the 'layering' aspect?

The 'layering' aspect allows you to build up patterns and colors by applying different mediums over each other using the stencil, creating depth and complexity in your designs.

Are there specific inks recommended for this stencil?

While it works with most inks, Tim Holtz's own range of inks (like Distress Inks) are often paired with his stencils for complementary effects and colors.

Troubleshooting

Ink bleeding under the stencil

Ensure the stencil is pressed firmly against the surface. Use a light touch when applying ink, or try using a blending tool with minimal ink. For sprays, protect surrounding areas and use a light mist.

Uneven ink/paint application

Check your application tool (e.g., sponge, brush) for even distribution of the medium. Ensure the stencil is flat and secure. Try dabbing the ink on rather than wiping.

Stencil difficult to clean

Clean the stencil as soon as possible after use. For stubborn residue, soak briefly in warm, soapy water or use a dedicated stencil cleaner. A soft brush can help dislodge dried mediums.
