Setup, Compatibility & Care
Sowing: Sow seeds indoors from February to April on the surface of moist seed compost. Cover lightly with compost or vermiculite. Keep in a propagator or sealed bag at 18–20°C. Germination typically takes 2–4 weeks. Do not exclude light, as it aids germination.
Transplanting: Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into 7.5cm pots and grow them in cooler conditions. Gradually acclimatize them to outdoor conditions for a few weeks before planting outside.
Planting Out: After all risk of frost has passed, plant seedlings 25cm apart in any fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Alternatively, plant directly into containers for a sunny patio display.
Outdoor Sowing: You can also sow directly into well-drained soil outdoors once the last frosts have passed. Cover seeds thinly with fine soil and keep the area moist. Thin seedlings to 25cm apart once they have three sets of leaves.
Compatibility: Thrives in full sun and prefers fertile, well-drained soil. It is well-suited for planting in containers, pots, borders, and beds.
Care: Deadhead faded blooms regularly to encourage continuous flowering throughout the season. Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry spells.
