FAQs
What tools do I need to install these olives?
You'll need a suitable wrench to tighten the compression nut and a pipe cutter or saw to prepare the pipe.
Can I reuse the olives?
It is generally recommended to replace the olive when disassembling and reassembling a compression fitting to ensure a reliable seal.
What type of pipes can these olives be used with?
These olives are designed for use with 22mm pipes and are compatible with copper and plastic pipes when used with appropriate compression fittings.
How do I know if I've tightened the nut enough?
Tighten the nut until it feels snug and a watertight seal is achieved. Avoid over-tightening, as this can damage the olive and fitting.
What is the lifespan of a compression fitting with these olives?
With proper installation and care, compression fittings can last for many years. However, factors like water quality and environmental conditions can affect their lifespan.
Can I use these olives with gas lines?
No. These olives are designed for water applications only. Using them with gas lines is unsafe.
Troubleshooting
Leakage at the fitting.
Tighten the compression nut further. If the leak persists, disassemble the fitting, inspect the olive for damage, and replace it if necessary. Ensure the pipe end is clean and properly inserted.
Difficulty tightening the nut.
Make sure the pipe is fully inserted into the fitting body. Apply a small amount of pipe jointing compound to the olive to help it seal and prevent seizing. Use the correct size wrench.
