Full details
The Cercis Bodnant Tree is a stunning deciduous tree, celebrated for its beautiful heart-shaped leaves and compact size, making it ideal for various garden settings. It produces spectacular lavender-pink blossoms in spring, adding vibrant color to the landscape. For optimal growth and abundant blooms, plant in well-draining soil and water regularly during the growing season. This tree is a truly beautiful and graceful addition to gardens, parks, and other landscapes. Originating from the Mediterranean, this tree, also known as the Judas Tree, thrives in full sun. It's a medium-sized tree or large shrub that displays abundant small lilacy-pink flowers on bare branches in spring, followed by purple-tinged seed pods in summer. The heart-shaped leaves emerge after the flowers and turn amber in autumn. While it thrives in most soils and is drought-tolerant once established, a sunny spot is crucial. Its striking blossoms earned it a First-Class Certificate from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1944, leading to the cultivar name ‘Bodnant’. The common name ‘Judas Tree’ is linked to the myth of Judas Iscariot hanging himself from such a tree.
