Setup, Compatibility & Care
To begin, sow seeds indoors or under glass between March and April. Use a high-quality, free-draining seed compost and cover the seeds lightly. Maintain a consistent, moist environment for the compost, but be careful to avoid overwatering, as the seeds are susceptible to rotting in water-logged conditions. Germination typically occurs within 7 to 30 days depending on ambient temperatures. Once seedlings are large enough to handle and the risk of frost has passed, transplant them to their final position in the garden. Throughout the growing season, ensure that the plants are tied into their supports to encourage upward growth. Deadheading spent blooms can sometimes encourage a prolonged flowering period, though the plant is naturally prolific.
