Full details

The VEVOR 10-Ton Hydraulic Exhaust Pipe Expander is an essential tool for professional automotive mechanics and DIY enthusiasts looking to perform precision exhaust system repairs. Providing an impressive 10 tons of force, it easily expands pipes ranging from 1-5/8 inches to 4-1/4 inches, making it highly versatile for custom exhaust fabrication. While it excels at handling copper and aluminum tubing, users should note that it requires a manual pumping process, which may take time compared to pneumatic alternatives.

FAQs

What materials can this tool expand?

This tool is designed for copper and aluminum pipes commonly found in exhaust systems.

Can I use this for stainless steel exhaust pipes?

While it can expand many metals, stainless steel is significantly harder; use caution and ensure the pipe is within the tool's capacity limits.

Is the hydraulic oil included?

The unit typically comes pre-filled, but it is recommended to keep high-quality hydraulic fluid on hand for future maintenance.

What is the minimum pipe diameter it can handle?

The expander can accommodate pipes starting from 4.13 cm or 1-5/8 inches.

Does the set come with everything needed to start?

Yes, it includes the hydraulic ram, four dies, a 4-foot hose, and a carrying case.

How do I maintain the hydraulic hose?

Keep the hose free of kinks and protect it from sharp edges or hot surfaces while working.

Troubleshooting

The ram fails to extend under pressure.

Check the hydraulic fluid level and ensure the release valve is fully closed before pumping.

Expansion results in an uneven or lopsided pipe end.

Ensure the expander is centered within the pipe and that the die is correctly seated; rotate the tool slightly between pumps for an even finish.

The pump feels 'spongy' or fails to build pressure.

There may be air in the hydraulic system; bleed the system according to standard hydraulic maintenance procedures.

Pros and Cons

Pros

High 10-ton expansion capacity
Comprehensive size coverage for exhaust repairs
Durable, corrosion-resistant finish
Included storage case keeps parts organized
Flexible 4-foot hydraulic hose for improved reach

Cons

Manual operation can be slower than pneumatic tools
Requires proper surface alignment to prevent uneven expansion
Not intended for heavy-duty steel thick-walled structural piping

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Before starting, ensure the pipe surface is clean of heavy debris. Select the correct expansion die for your specific pipe diameter and attach it firmly to the expander head. Connect the hydraulic hose to the pump and the ram, ensuring all fittings are tight to prevent fluid leakage. After each use, wipe down the dies and the tool body with a clean rag to remove metal shavings or oil. Store the unit in its provided case in a dry, temperate location to prevent rust. Avoid exceeding the maximum capacity to preserve the integrity of the hydraulic seals.
